Question of the Day

Published December 23, 2019

What are keywords?

  1. Required terms to include in blog headlines.
  2. Passwords stored on a corporate server.
  3. Relevant ideas, topics, and terms which define content.

The Answer is C.

Keywords are those ideas and topics that define what your content is about.

They represent the terms people are searching for. We use keywords to determine what to write about, as a means of providing answers to the relevant questions people are searching for

For example, consider a business that sells leisure T-shirts. In order to rank for the term "T-shirts," it's first necessary to brainstorm the associated terms, ideas and topics. A simple step is considering: What would I search for if I was looking for a leisure T-shirt?

Related phrases might include:

  • comfortable T-shirt
  • sleep shirt
  • comfy tee
  • comfortable top

Each of the keywords above represents a search query a potential customer might be inclined to enter into a search engine. By incorporating these keywords into your content, search engines will be more likely to understand the service or product you provide, and, in turn, elevate your site in the rankings.
