On this episode of 'Inbound & Down,' host Jon Sasala chats with HubSpot Academy and podcasting superstar Jorie Munroe, about their start at HubSpot and their entrance into the world of podcasts.
Jorie Munroe is a perfect embodiment of what makes HubSpot and its culture so special.
Starting at HubSpot over four years ago, Munroe began on the customer support team—the perfect entry point into the world of inbound software and customer needs. From there, they became an Inbound Professor at the HubSpot Academy, the position which they currently occupy.

Longtime Inbound & Down listeners will remember our episode with Kevin Dunn, Manager at HubSpot Academy, about the team's Guiding Principles. One of those principles? "Always be learning."
In that vein, the academy encourages its team members to experiment, and Munroe took their experimentation down the audio route.
The content the academy produces is primarily visual, and Munroe doesn't classify themself as a visual learner, so they decided to get creative by reading top performing blogs and publishing them as mini-podcasts.
HubSpot Academy to Podcasting
While these experiments haven't skyrocketed Munroe to audio-stardom (yet), they did solidify them as the logical choice to co-host the inaugural season of the Skill Up podcast with fellow HubSpotter and SEO expert Matt Howells-Barby.
After doing a test recording and confirming the two of them had a great rapport, they went on to record the rest of the season.
Munroe states, "If you're going to co-host a show, that's where the first meeting or personality check is really handy because you should have a degree of chemistry between your co-hosts. You should get a co-host you want to talk to."
For listeners, the chemistry is tangible, and it creates a great listening experience. Howells-Barby acts as the expert, where Munroe is a stand-in for us, the listeners, asking questions that we ourselves often have.

After an incredible first season, the team decided to experiment further and introduced a new format, including featuring Munroe as the sole host. Season two garnered a great response, so the format remains the same, albeit with new talent. Season three is hosted by Anni Kim, a fellow Inbound Professor.
Kim and Munroe—both now hosting and podcasting experts—decided to put their heads together and pool their collective knowledge to develop a presentation on getting started in podcasting.
They've taken this presentation on the virtual road, sharing it with HubSpot User Groups (HUGs) around the country, including to the NYCHUG, which is hosted by yours truly, Morey Creative Studios.
